A deadly fire took the lives of two people earlier today at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport.
Many details of the incident are still unknown. According to state media, the fire started underground, in the basement of Terminal 1, igniting at around 7:16 a.m. this morning, during a renovation project. The fire, which began in a pile of insulation materials, also left five people injured, two of them severely.
The blaze was controlled by firefighters in around two hours, and those injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Airport officials say that the fire has not disturbed regular service to the airport and flights are proceeding as usual.
