If you’ve been watching the weather channel this week, you should know that it has been pretty rainy in China lately.
Serious floods have swept through cities across southern China, apparently with enough force to carry away manhole covers. One street in Jingjiang city, Fujian province, lost two of its manhole covers during a storm earlier this week, NetEase reports.
With residents trudging across the flooded streets, this could have turned into a catastrophe for some unlucky pedestrian.
But not to fear! A mild-mannered shopkeeper dropped her disguise and bravely came out to guard the uncovered manholes, warning passersby away who were coming too close.
Unfortunately, as she was standing guard, she accidentally happened to slip into one of the manholes herself. In the nick of time, a street cleaner rushed out to rescue her.
Afterward, the woman returned to her secret identity as a simple shopkeep.
Photos of the woman courageously guarding the manhole covers have gone viral online, with netizens raining down praise on the brave woman, even calling her “The Beauty in the Rain.”
“Good Samaritans are the best! If it were me in that situation, I’m not sure if I could have done what she did,” wrote one netizen.
“I am happy to live in a world with these kind of people,” commented another.
Who needs Shanghai Superman or Captain China, when you have people like this?
But, in case this hero isn’t around to save you, the next time it floods consider alternate transportation options, like the bus:
