A murderer who had been living as a fugitive for the past 28 years after killing a 10-year-old boy recently turned himself in to the police, revealing where he had hidden the body all those years ago.
According to NetEase, the 49-year-old Fu Mou confessed to murdering a 10-year-old boy and attempting to blackmail his family way back in 1988, saying he turned himself in to police after the guilt became unbearable.
While desperately searching for money to build a new house, Fu decided to kill his victim after the boy accidentally walked into his house after playing outside. Inspired by a book he was reading, Fu then attempted to extort his parents for money.
After the 21-year-old Fu strangled the boy and then buried his body under a pigsty nearby. He later sent the boy’s shoes and a ransom note demanding 8,800 yuan (around $1,300) to his parents.
Fu fled before police turned up the following day and began his 28 year stint evading justice which saw him living and working across Xiamen, Tibet, Yunnan, Guizhou, Jiangxi, Anhui and several other locations.
After almost three decades, Fu’s reappearance came as devastating news for his victim’s parents, who all along believed that their son was still alive and never stopped searching for him. The boy’s remains were dug up by local police last week.
