China has emerged as the country with the most faith in Donald Trump’s presidential capabilities according to a recent study carried out by the Pew Research Center.
The survey asked respondents in 15 countries, “How much confidence do you have in U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump to do the right thing regarding world affairs?” Here are the results:
As you might have guessed, the majority of people are not relishing the thought of a Trump presidency, but the country most willing to give him the benefit of the doubt turns out to be China. Alongside Italy and Hungary, one in five people have confidence in Donald Trump to strut his stuff on the world stage.
The researchers who carried out the survey found that positive views of Trump were also tied to confidence in another autocratic leader: Vladimir Putin. “People who have confidence in Putin are more likely to express confidence in Trump,” they said.
Perhaps faith in the Donald is down to brand recognition, with Donald Trump face masks and toilet paper selling like hotcakes on e-commerce giant Alibaba.
Or maybe it’s just down to China being one of his favorite subjects during his bid for the Republican nomination.
