Aren’t soldiers supposed to rescue the locals? Well, not this time!
In Huaihua city, Hunan province, a group of locals worked together to throw down ropes and nets to save a soldier in danger of getting washed away by a flood.
According to iFeng News, the soldier had actually been floating down the river for about 2 km. Fortunately for him, residents were alerted to the situation and volunteered to come to the rescue, constructing some ropes and nets for him to grab onto as he passed underneath the bridge.

However, the video fails to show the solider actually being pulled to safety. Some netizens worried that the poor soldier hadn’t actually managed to make it. Police later confirmed that due to the strong current, the local had been unable to rescue the soldier, but he had been saved further downstream.
Torrential rains have brought heavy floods to southern China, changing, shaking and ending many lives. One grandpa floated his kids to school in a wooden basin, 3,000 pigs were saved from high waters and one schoolgirl was tragically drowned in the middle of the street while helping an old lady across a flood road.
