A foreign national was caught by police earlier this week at Beijing Capital Airport with 1.175 kilograms of cocaine concealed in her clothing and body cavities.
According to Beijing Daily, the woman in question landed at the airport around 5:30 p.m. on July 5 and began to pass through customs an hour later.
Having clearly had little training about how to play it cool, suspicions were aroused when the women tagged along with a group of tourists who had arrived from a different country and walked in a strange posture, likely due to the concealed drugs.
Customs officers stopped the woman after observing that she had an abnormally small amount of luggage and could not answer simple questions about her planned itinerary despite claiming to be a tourist.
The woman was subsequently sent through an X-ray machine where officers found fifty small pieces of cocaine hidden in special pockets within her underwear, as well as five more fragments concealed within her body.
The woman has been detained by police for further investigation. A Beijing customs representative told Xinhua that this method of smuggling differed from previous cases encountered at the airport and that authorities would be more vigilant in the future.
