What kind of wedding do you want to have with your special someone? For cross-cultural couples, it’s a serious a question.
While some Chinese grooms have chosen a more modern approach when wedding a Western girl, one 26-year-old guy from Xi’an, surnamed Xue, decided to go with something a little more traditional.
Passersby felt like they had been transported back in time to ancient China when they spotted the gallantly-dressed bridegroom riding a horse, leading a sedan chair team with a bride inside, veiled in red.
However, if they looked closer they might have been more surprised to find that the sedan chair was actually being carried by a few foreign friends and two out of the four bridesmaids were also girls from the West.
Then, if they had looked even closer still, they could have been even more astonished to notice that the bride herself was an American.
According to NetEase, after Xue graduated from Xi’an University, he was sent to a company located in Minnesota for a graduation internship. It was there that Xue met an American girl named Jessie who was the same age as him. They fell in love.
Even before meeting Xue, Jessie had been interested in Chinese culture. Nowadays, they book work in Hangzhou — Xue at a foreign company and Jessie as an English teacher.
Based on Jessie’s wishes, they decided to get married in China in a very traditional fashion. So the couple asked their wedding planners to design a unique ceremony for them.
Just like the French girl who said that she didn’t need a car or apartment and was marrying her Chinese boyfriend for love, Xue and Jessie didn’t need to have an excessively extravagant wedding, only one that has been around for centuries.
