SHE: International Women Artists Exhibition @ Long Museum
Spanning a range of media and ten centuries of art history, She features works by 105 women artists from China and abroad. The first of the exhibition’s four chapters is called ‘self-annihilation’ and features very early, oftentimes anonymous artworks. ‘Self-liberation’ tracks women’s inroads into society, education and revolution following a process of emancipation beginning in the early 20th century in the west, as well as the founding of the PRC in 1949. ‘Self-introspection’ tracks women artists as they began to explore their own mode of expression from personal experience; while the ‘Expression of Self’ looks to feminism, gender and individualism. Artists include Louise Borgeouis, Yayoi Kusama, Jenny Saville, Hong Yu and Cao Fei.

Turning Point: Contemporary Art in China Since 2000 @ Minsheng Art Museum
A group exhibition featuring 52 Chinese artists and collectives goes on display at Minsheng Art Museum this summer. Ranging from painting, sculpture and installation, through to video, animation and more, together they present a broad overview of how contemporary artists have responded to China’s enormous societal shifts since 2000. Expect offerings from the likes of Chen Wei, Cheng Ran, Li Shurui, Miao Ying, Zhang Ding and others.
