A local official in Dongguan city, Guangdong province, drove his car straight into a fully-packed restaurant on Saturday night, injuring 12 people inside. One of the victims was so badly injured she had to have her leg amputated. Turns out, the official was drunk and has been suspended from his post pending investigation.
At around 10:40 p.m., according to witnesses, the official surnamed Wang attempted to turn his car onto the road, but instead ended up stuck in front of the restaurant, blocking both lanes of traffic. The owner of the restaurant rushed out to have a few words with Wang. Moments later, Wang put the pedal to the metal, accelerating the car forward and crashing his way right through the restaurant, Southcn.com reports.
A waiter surnamed Zhu had her right leg severed in the crash. The other 11 victims were only slightly injured. According to reporters, Zhu has two children aged one and four, and her husband recently became unemployed.
Rumor has it that Wang had a quarrel with the restaurant owner right before the crash, but a witness surnamed Luo told reporters that the quarrel was unlikely because the restaurant owner smiled while talking with the driver.
A blood alcohol level of 184.55 milligram per 100 milliliters was recorded from Wang; the legal limit in China is 80 milligrams. He has now been detained for drunk driving.
