Mid-Autumn festival trips around China
If you haven’t managed to squeeze in a summer vacation or is still recovering from your holiday blues, the mooncake festival weekend is the ideal time to treat yourself to a break.
Here are three perfect weekend getaways where you can really escape from all the hustle and bustle in Shanghai. You can choose to treat yourself to a three day yoga and meditation retreat, hike in “China’s best oxygen bar” in the Pan’an county or hike the dead volcano and camp on the ”Sunrise Mountain”. Nature: A Subjective Place @ SCôP
SCôP (The Shanghai Centre of Photography) is located in West Bund and is currently featuring the exhibit ”Nature: A Subjective Place”. SCôP aims to be the leading museum-quality venue dedicated to the wonders of photography in Shanghai. With a mission to inspire the local community with the dynamism of Chinese photography, this new exhibit is ongoing until the end of October. It presents over 70 extraordinary photographic collections created using a diverse range of styles, techniques and approaches.

Shilin night market @ Jinjiang amusement park
Taipei’s largest night market – Shilin Night Market is now in Shanghai and is set up beside the Jinjiang Amusement park. This year, over 40 stalls are flown over from Taiwan and they’re selling all kinds of Taiwanese street food like fried chicken fillets, shaved ice and oyster omelettes priced between ¥10-25. This night market is ongoing until the end of October.

Damon & Naomi China Tour @ YuYinTang
American dream pop/indie folk duo Damon & Naomi are in town for their China tour. Formerly band members of alternative rock band Galaxie 500, The duo’s latest LP, Fortune, is released with Naomi’s video piece of the same name. She refers to the work as “a silent movie”. The visuals are so interconnected with the music hence it’s more of an immersive dream-like visual poem. In their upcoming performance the pair will be presenting them live as a soundtrack to Naomi’s “silent” movie.

Al Rocco & Blow Fever @ Arkham
Fresh off the release of their Solo EPs, rappers Al Rocco and Blow Fever are taking over Arkham as part of their 24K China Tour. Grand Delusion @ La Maison

Photography @ Craft
Hop on over to Craft today for a free portrait photo session by renowned Shanghai based photographer – Marcin Gnaś. The portraits taken will be exhibited and auctioned in Craft after a month long sessions and all of the proceeds will be donated to the ”Guangxi Dog Foundation” – a non-profit organisation that rescues dogs saved from the annual Yulin dog meat festival.
