Every few years, Uncle Wen has to step back on the court to show the kids that he’s still got game.
Phoenix Media has recently published a short clip starring 74-year-old former Chinese premier Wen Jiabao playing a game of pickup basketball with some middle-schoolers. According to our unofficial count, Wen goes 3-4 from the field with 1 assist in a little over 1 minute of game time in the video. Extrapolating those numbers out to a full 48-minute game, makes us think that some NBA team really should have taken a shot on Wen this summer.
During the game, Wen’s teammates treat the elderly former leader like he is Kobe Bryant, feeding him the ball in the left corner and letting him patiently humiliate his hapless defender with a series of hesitation moves, set shots and lefty lay-ups.
At the end of the video, Wen even throws a behind the back pass. Uncle Drew who?
Watch the annihilation below:
According to Ifeng News, the game took place at a middle school in Xiaogan, Hubei province on September 18th. Blocked from visiting Taiwan, Wen is apparently happily spending his retirement schooling middle-school kids on the hardwood.
The last time we saw Wen on the court was back in 2012, when he was still working.
We have to assume that he is still training to stay in shape for that long-awaited game of one-on-one against Barack Obama.
