Sun Kil Moon will play a long-awaited set of dates in China this year. On Tuesday night they will be performing at the QSW Culture Center. Their extraordinary music, driven by the powerhouse that is singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek, is a compelling series of tales both real and imagined – with observations, tragedies, and inanities compressed into unbreakable indie folk tunes. Melbourne Cup @ The Grand Kempinski Hotel

AustCham Shanghai partners with the Australian Shanghai Association (ASA) to invite you to the Shanghai Melbourne Cup 2016. The Melbourne Cup is Australia’s premier horse race and the richest handicap race in the world. Widely known as “the race that stops a nation”, the race is held on the first Tuesday of November every year at Flemington, Victoria. The ASA has hosted the Shanghai Melbourne Cup event since 1998 and it has become the day we “stop Shanghai!”. Apart from being a fun day out the Shanghai Melbourne Cup helps to raise funds for the Australia Shanghai Association’s nominated charities.

The US Presidential Campaign @ Harvard Center Shanghai

A “perfect storm” occurs when several forces that previously had been developing independently come together and create a force far stronger than before. This year’s American election has been a perfect storm. Four longtime social trends in US society have come together producing an unprecedented situation with not only the candidacy of Trump, but the unexpected challenge from Sanders produced a situation of leading candidates standing outside their party’s mainstream. Steve Kelman will analyze these four social trends and how they have influenced American public policy debate. The presentation will center on what this year’s election says about American society, but he will briefly discuss the role of China in the campaign. The event starts at 6.30pm and tickets are ¥100 for non-members.

Michael Wolf @ M97 Project Space
