Recent visitors to tourist sites in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou would be surprised to learn that these mega-cities have turned to “ghost towns” during Chinese New Year.
While the annual Spring Festival holiday is a time to reconnect with family, it is also a time to travel. On Saturday, some 50.5 million domestic tourists visited sites around the country. The following day, the number went up to 65.2 million, a 14.7% increase over last year.
Let’s just say, it wasn’t the best weekend to visit Shanghai’s “Old City.”
Or Hangzhou’s West Lake, which saw over 500,000 visitors on Saturday.
Chongqing’s most popular cableway was also a bit jammed…
So what about a nice, relaxing day at the beach in Sanya?
