Mamahuhu, the Shanghai-based comedic troupe, is back at it again with new content in the form of their first-ever music video, one that concerns a laowai who just wants to catch a taxi to get home after a night out in Shanghai. Mamahuhu’s YouTube channel offers content about food, culture, and travel all while making viewers crack up with jokes about the various plights of foreigners living in Shanghai.
The song makes several jokes about taxi drivers being difficult to do business with. Our singer in crisis pleads to a taxi driver in a sing-song voice, “I just want you to take me to this place, got money for you to take.” The taxi driver then relents and says his price “500 yuan!” to which the singer quickly replies, “But not that much!”
In the end, the singer resolves his issue by pulling out his phone and using Didi, China’s Uber-like service, to finally get a ride. The video ends with a couple of fellow laowai watching the Didi car zoom by. “This guy gets a Didi easily,” one says. “What the hell?” his friend responds, referring to another video from earlier this year about the woes of using Didi.
