video has hit Chinese social media showing a pair of men chucking stones at tigers inside Beijing Wildlife Park, apparently trying to provoke the animals into a reaction.
In the infuriating clip which was filmed by a fellow visitor, the two men are seen picking up rocks from the ground and attempting to lob them over the tall fence at a tiger resting on top of a platform. There is also a woman seen recording their actions on her smartphone and vocally encouraging their behavior.
Because of the tall barrier separating the visitors and animals, the men can’t seem to exactly hit the tigers, but the footage has sparked widespread online outrage nonetheless, prompting the park to announce that it is investigating the incident.
While China’s giant pandas get pampered and babied, it seems that many other animals in China are treated like trash. Back in April, tourists infamously pelted a kangaroo with rocks at the Fuzhou Zoo in Fujian province intending to wake it up. Instead, they ended up killing the creature.
Over the years, Chinese zoos have become notorious for their shoddy and, at times, incredibly cruel treatment of animals. Although some zoos may hold good intentions of preserving endangered species and educating the public, many instead look more to make a profit and do the bare minimum to care for their animals.
