ideo clips and images have been circulating on WeChat today of an extremely gruesome suicide at a Shanghai shopping mall.
The incident occurred at around 1 pm this afternoon inside the Shanghai New World City mall, known locally as Xinshijie (上海新世界). A woman jumped from one of the upper floors, landing straight on a glass partition, cutting herbody into pieces.
At the moment, the incident is under investigation and no further details have been released. Meanwhile, clips and photos of the bloody aftermath have been disappearing from Chinese social media.
You can watch footage from the scene below. Again, viewer discretion is strongly advised.
Some netizens have pointed out that another suicide took place at the very same location on May 14th, 2008. It’s not clear if there is any connection between the two incidents. Back in May, a man jumped to his death at Shanghai’s IAPM Mall, landing on two women, seriously injuring one.
