Video has hit the Chinese internet of the aftermath of a pedestrian bridge partially collapsing under the weight of Golden Week crowds last Wednesday during a dragon boat race in Foshan, Guangdong province.
Spectators appear not terribly concerned that the bridge now dips nearly into the water, continuing to cross it in considerable numbers. No one was reported injured and the bridge was repaired the following day.
National holidays in China are like nothing else in the world and tourist sites sometimes struggle with securing the safety of the massive influx of visitors. During last year’s May Day holiday, a swinging bridge at a Jiangxi scenic spot nearly overturned, leaving more than 20 tourists hanging over a river.
