n auntie street cleaner in Henan province ended up in the hospital last week after stopping a kid from taking a dump on the side of a busy road. Truly, no good deed ever goes unpunished.
The 66-year-old woman named Yao Xiang was tidying up around a park in the city of Ruzhou last Thursday when she spotted the child preparing to defecate on the roadside and moved to stop him.
Rather than thanks, Yao was met with anger and outrage from the child’s parents who cursed at her and beat her up for touching their child. In footage of the incident captured by a bystander, the kid’s father is seen grabbing Yao’s hair and attempting to pull her to her feet after she fell to the ground in the initial scuffle. Meanwhile, the man’s wife argues with passersby and spits in Yao’s direction.
Police soon arrived on the scene, taking the couple back to the station while Yao was rushed to the hospital. “When you sweep the ground, people always look down on you,” she later told reporters, choking back tears. Fortunately, she suffered only some bumps and bruises in the confrontation.
The couple have since apologized and agreed to pay Yao’s medical bills. However, most netizens are unsatisfied with this conclusion, calling for them to be arrested.
A local news report points out that there are two public bathrooms not far from where the incident took place.
Unfortunately, children defecating and pissing in public is a fairly common sight in China. Last week, footage went viral of a mother letting her kid pee on the floor of a crowded Beijing bus.
