At the moment the only place in China classified as being “high risk” for the coronavirus is Beijing’s Chaoyang district.
The upgraded classification came on Monday after a “cluster” of Covid-19 cases was confirmed last week in the district with a man arriving from abroad infecting three of his family members.
It’s been reported that the family members visited a store in Chaoyang and a water park in the neighboring Shunyi district.
Chaoyang district’s risk level is higher than that of the Heilongjiang city of Suifenhe and two districts in the city of Guangzhou, which are both categorized as being “medium risk” because of the threat posed by imported cases from abroad.
Everywhere else in the country is rated as being “low risk.”
An area can only be classified as high-risk if within the past 14 days it has reported more than 50 confirmed cases or has discovered a cluster of infections.
Chaoyang is one of the core districts of Beijing, home to numerous foreign embassies, China headquarters of countless foreign companies, Sanlitun, and the Olympic Park.
