Another Chinese city has shifted into containment mode following a Covid-19 flare-up.
The Liaoning city of Dalian reported one confirmed coronavirus case on Wednesday and two more on Thursday, prompting officials to launch an epidemiological investigation into the patients’ close contacts and plan to conduct tens of thousands of nucleic acid tests.
A 58-year-old worker at a seafood processing factory has been identified as the first confirmed case.
That factory has been swiftly closed with all of its employees being put into quarantine and tested. Those tests have revealed 12 asymptomatic cases.
Along with factory workers, officials have announced that they plan to further test around 190,000 people who all live in the surrounding area of the plant.
While China has had the pandemic mostly under control for months now, it has continually been dealing with small outbreaks in various cities around the country, including in Guangzhou, Beijing, and Suifenhe on the Russian border.
At the moment, authorities are also dealing with another worrying outbreak in Xinjiang with the region reported 18 more new cases on Thursday.
