Amazon’s consumer-oriented cloud service, Amazon Drive, emailed customers on July 29 informing them that the company will shut down its cloud storage service by the end of 2021. On October 31, 2022, the Amazon Drive app for Android and iOS will be discontinued.
However, Amazon will continue to provide users with cloud storage services for photos and videos through Amazon Photos, “We are using this opportunity to focus more on Amazon Photos to provide customers with dedicated photo and video storage solutions.”
Photos and videos in Amazon Drive accounts will be automatically saved to Amazon Photos, Amazon said. However, for all “files that are not pictures or videos”, users need to download them locally before the service is shut down.
